OUR ORIGINS
Sometimes when you visit somewhere, there’s something intangible that sticks in your soul. For me, it was Cape Town, South Africa. I wanted to share the spirit of where I was with my friends, to give them a tangible souvenir of this amazing place. So, I sent out postcards. Soon I was sending fifty to a hundred postcards to people ranging from close childhood friends to distant acquaintances. It became my thing - every trip I went on, I would send out postcards, sharing funny anecdotes and creating a little community of storytellers. The spirit of connection, adventure and romance of my little tradition was electrifying. I knew I had to chase that feeling. And so, over the next two years including my eventual move to Cape Town, postcard girls came to be born in the Mother City. Inspired by the landscapes, culture, and people, Cape Town’s unique spirit is at the core of our brand.
OUR VALUES & BUSINESS MODEL
Integral to postcard girls is our shared love of memories, photography and stories. A postcard memorializes and symbolizes a destination and an adventure in a permanent way and represents the romantic and restless spirit vital to our brand. In documenting our lives, we render each little story timeless in its own right, keeping a little piece of the past to inspire our new journeys. We also value the creation of a connected, inspired and tight-knit community, a trailblazer’s collective. That notion of caring for others and for the places we visit is why, for all our big dreams, we know that a good adventure is nothing without the right ethics. All of our pieces are ethically made in Cape Town, working with several small, local manufacturers and employing Capetonian women. We also give back to our community with partnerships with grassroots organizations supporting education and women’s rights.
OUR COLLECTIONS
Our limited-edition, destination-inspired collections reflect the fleeting nature of adventure. Twice a year, we will launch a collection based on a brand-favorite, culturally unique beach destination. Given our roots, our first collection draws inspiration from the beautiful Clifton Beach in Cape Town. Soon, we’ll be paying homage to lovely destinations in both Mozambique & Namibia. For each collection, we will also collaborate with a local artist to create a postcard reflecting the beauty and spirit of that unique destination. We want to highlight places that might not always be talked about and to encourage our community to get off the beaten path and support places whose beauty, people and culture deserve greater renown.
